Sail to Terceira From Santa Maria via Sao Miguel
We dodged squalls as we set sail from Santa Maria to Sao Miguel. The next day we departed Sao Miguel with an unexplained uneasiness, however we had one of our best sails in a long time. In Terceira, we anchored in Praia da Vitoria, the best anchorage in the Azores.

The Sounds of Symi
Panormitis, Symi 8th May: After 6 days of easy life in Rhodes it was time to crack on. The two crows that had hidden a stash of bread in our mainsail cover were probably sad to see us go although looking at the way they were attacking the window covers […]
Rhodes – A Holiday From our Holiday
Rhodes Town We were very pleased to find out there were berths available in Rhodes Mandraki harbour with laid lines and all for the very reasonable price of €12 a night, including water and electric. We really hate Med mooring, on the handful of occasions we’ve done it, another boat […]
The Wild Anchorages of Karpathos and Alimia
From Kasos we headed to the wild anchorages of Karpathos and Alimia. Tristomo, Karpathos With decent winds forecast to blow us across the Karpathos Channel on Sunday, we needed to first make the jump up to Tristomo. The sea had barely a ripple in the light westerly winds and it was an uneventful […]
Elounda to Kasos
Elounda After a relaxing evening, our first night at anchor was rudely disturbed by the bilge pump at 5:30am. With memories of last summer’s leaking prop shaft still fresh in our mind, we broke the world record for fastest leap out of bed. First check – yep, there was water […]
Tempests and Turtles – Emerald has Left the Marina
Emerald has left the marina, off on her adventures for summer 2017. We left a day earlier than planned – the southerly winds forecast for the next day could have made it a bit more exciting getting out of our berth; so we took the easy option of going early. […]
Autumn in Crete – Settling in to Ag. Nik and Gorging on Gorges
This is a long one sorry! I’ve finally got on to writing up the first part of our stay in Agios Nikolaos. This one covers autumn; at some point there will be one for winter and spring. A lot happened so settle back and hopefully enjoy 🙂 Rhythmion to Agios […]
Rhythmion and the Samaria Gorge
October 2016: After an unpleasant night with little sleep we arrived safely in Crete at the town of Rhythmion; looking on the bright side we did sail most of the way. The sun was shining to welcome us to Rhythmion with a space available on the visitor pontoon. We had […]
Peloponnese III – Running Away From the Weather
Our first stop on the third finger of the Peloponnese was Plytra. Morrissey singing ‘Every day is like Sunday in a seaside town where everything is closed down’ kept popping into my head. Except it didn’t feel gloomy in bright sunshine and temperatures of 30°C. Despite not much being open, […]
Peloponnese II – The Mani Peninsula
After a few weeks sailing around the western finger of the Peloponnese, it was time to move on to the second – known as the Mani peninsula. It was a rushed departure from Koroni after a sleepless night of pitching and rolling. A north easterly wind had started blowing into […]
Sail The Peloponnese Part I – Ancient History Abounds
It was September and the sailing season was ticking on. It was time to leave the Ionian and begin to sail the Peloponnese. The Peloponnese is chock full of places to visit and the first stop on our historical odyssey was to be the ancient site of Olympia, birthplace of the […]
Flash, Bang: Welcome to the Ionian
It was an uneventful journey from Montenegro to Corfu. We managed about 30nm of sailing, the rest of the journey the winds were far too light to push Emerald along. We spent one night at sea where green was the theme – the sun gave us it’s green flash and the almost […]
Montenegro
10th August: The early bird only just caught the worm when we went to check out from Cavtat at 6:30 this morning. We were surprised to see just a small gap remaining on the end of the customs quay as a huge powerboat got in just before us to the […]
The Spiders of Lastovo and the Walls of Ston
4th August: Our walk from the anchorage at Pasadur to Lastovo town turned out to be more of an adventure than expected. We set off along the road alongside the anchorage, soon turning off onto a forest track. Being a forest track we expected some shade from the trees, but the […]
Vis
31st July: It was a light winds day for our journey out to Vis so unfortunately it was all motor and no sail. We arrived early afternoon to find most of the mooring buoys free. The buoys are a bit pricey at 294kn for 13 to 14m but they gave […]
The Great Wall of Ostrica and Back to the Busy Southlands
26th July: Leaving Lamljana we hoped for a sail but the wind was very fickle and light to start with. We decided to wait an hour or so in the bay of Zincena on Pasman where we scooted around in gusts from the east. We headed off again at 1ish […]
